Vegetables, salads, and healthy soups are your best alternatives and provide you with extra fiber along with much lower calories compared to other high-calorie high-fat items on the Friendly’s menu. Soluble fiber gives you a full feeling, lowers LDL cholesterol, and regulates blood sugar levels. Insoluble fiber (roughage) acts like a sponge and provides bulk which also helps you feel full, speeds the movement of food, and promotes regularity.

Chicken is low calorie and low fat if the skin is removed and spices are used for flavor rather than gravies or cream sauces. It is a good source of vitamins and protein. The different chicken salads (Oriental, Crispy, Kickin’ Buffalo, and Caesar) at Friendly’s with the chicken grilled instead of fried are good choices You might want to add soup to that if you need something extra.

Try something different like the Chicken Fajita Quesadilla because it has grilled chicken, marinated sauteed vegetables, and comes with Spanish rice, diced tomatoes and lettuce as well as salsa (you can skip the sour cream).

The main things not to order are the “baskets” because the Chicken Strips, Shrimp, Clams, Fish ’n’ Chips, and french fries are all deep-fried.

It’s hard to say “no” to ice cream because Friendly’s is best known for their large variety of excellent ice creams. However, the Soft Serve Twist has only 170 calories. The Vanilla Fat-Free Frozen Yogurt has a low 80 calories, no fat, and no cholesterol. The type of additions to avoid in the ice cream you choose are the cookies, candy, brownies and such because they all add many calories.

Trans fat-free oil

Friendly’s had wanted for some time to help their customers by using healthful oils for their deep-frying because artificial trans fat oils can be a cause of heart disease and diabetes.
