How to Use Pellitory Root

Pellitory root tonic remedies are a common Ayurvedic remedy for paralysis and epilepsy in North Africa, India and Spain. It can be used for almost any type of mouth, gum and throat condition. The pellitory root can be chewed on to soothe dry mouth and throat by increasing saliva and it relieves gum inflammations by improving blood flow. The root can be used as a toothache cure that will help increase circulation and reduce gum inflammation. Another little known use for pellitory is to aid in digestion. It is believed that the increase in saliva that the root causes helps to activate sluggish digestion making it useful for mild constipation.

A dental compress can be made for toothaches by soaking a cotton ball in a pellitory tincture and then placing the cotton ball between the cheek and gum next to the aching tooth. Lozenges were once made from pellitory root because of the increase in saliva flow to relieve dry mouth and throat. These seem to be very difficult to find today and therefore are not used much. Pellitory can be used as a Neuralgia remedy also. Chew on a piece of fresh or dried root every day to reduce palsy and paralysis of the face and tongue and ease muscle pain in the face and head.
