Natural Well-Being

For those who live a modern, fast-paced lifestyle, fatigue may be a normal part of everyday life. Whether from physical, mental, or even emotional stress the body and mind can wear down from time to time. Uplifting essential oils are ideal for combating this type of exhaustion naturally.

Once the aroma molecules are absorbed into the body via the olfactory nerves these natural oils can improve mood, transforming a negative, tired outlook into a more positive perspective. They bring relief to an over-extended nervous system, allowing the body and mind to comfortably relax and perhaps even feel inspired. What are the best essential oils for fatigue and how can they be used?

List of Uplifting Oils

The following essential oils are beneficial for combating fatigue. They can be used on their own, in combination with one another, or even in conjunction with other essential oils that ease depression and stress such as lavender, rose, and sandalwood.

  • Neroli
  • Patchouli
  • Bergamot
  • Orange
  • Lemon
  • Verbena
  • Lemongrass
  • Grapefruit
  • Clove
  • Coriander
  • Cardamon
  • Cinnamon

Most of these oils are safe for general use although there are some precautions to be aware of. The citrus essential oils — bergamot, orange, lemon, and grapefruit — can increase the skin’s sensitivity to the sun. They should not be used in creams or oils on the skin before going out in the sun. Cinnamon, lemongrass, lemon, and clove essential oil can be irritating to the skin and they are more suited for

inhalation than skin application. If pregnant, talk to a doctor before using aromatherapy.

How to Use

There are several different ways to use these mood-enhancing essential oils for fatigue. They can be used in an essential oil diffuser, from a simple fan diffuser to the more potent nebulizer. You can also diffuse the aroma molecules yourself, creating an uplifting home environment. Add six to eight drops to a small plastic spray bottle, fill with clean warm water, and spray throughout the house. Try blending clove, cinnamon, and cardamon for a warming, uplifting aroma, lemongrass with grapefruit for a refreshing, brightening environment, or neroli with orange for a more gentle, soothing effect.

You can also take an aromatherapy bath to clear mental exhaustion and revitalize the body. Add eight to ten drops of essential oil to a cup of water or milk and add to bath water. Soak for fifteen to twenty minutes. Patchouli has a powerful scent on its own and is a wonderful essential oil not only for improving mood but also for skin care. Try cardamon with neroli essential oil, or use a more calming oil such as lavender along with orange.

Essential oils are extracted from flowers, fruit, bark, seeds, and plant resins. They are natural and powerful remedies for improving overall well-being. Try adding uplifting essential oils to your daily regiment and face the world with a more inspired, positive outlook.
