Health and Beauty Benefits of Carrot Seed Essential Oil
Not a Mere Weed
Carrot seed essential oil is sourced from the seeds of the wild carrot which in scientific nomenclature known as Daucus carota. In English layman’s term, this plant is identified as Queen Anne’s lace and some folks often bunch it with the common roadside weeds. Most practitioners of aromatherapy, however, would beg to disagree. Extracts from the wild carrot seeds contain certain properties beneficial to address many ailments and health issues, experts of herbal and natural healing methods claim.
To extract the essential oil from the wild carrot, its seeds are gathered and dried. The dried seeds are usually crushed and then steamed and distilled for the essential oil. Aside from acting as a shield against UVR, topical application of skin care products containing carotenoids provide a protection against other free radicals brought by environmental pollutants. Stray oxygen molecules, these free radicals can wreak havoc by creating an unlimited chain reaction of regeneration on human cells.
Cosmetic Uses
Some cosmetic skin applications are added benefits that can be derived from carrot seed oil extracts. The oil can be particularly beneficial in skin wrinkles due to the aging process. Applying the oil to the face every day is believed to prevent premature wrinkles. This helps in the restoration of the elasticity of the skin, in addition to repairing damage due to sun exposure.
The oil can also be an agent against premature baldness. Applied to the scalp, it encourages healthy growth of hair. Split ends can likewise be prevented by rubbing the extract to hair ends.
What Women Should Know
Outside of topical applications, carrot seed oil is also often used as an oral agent to regenerate the liver tissue. Health experts who prescribe this liver treatment approach usually consider a daily dosage of one drop daily during a period of restricted diet under a body cleansing program. The supposed detoxifying properties of the carrot seed oil are also said to be effective against arthritis with proper application method. Other advocates of aromatherapy claim that the oil extract can help in rejuvenating the body and combating fatigue.
For women, carrot seed essential oil is thought to be specifically beneficial in relieving premenstrual stress. There are no indicated side effects on intake of this seed oil essence, but women on the family way or expect to be pregnant should avoid its use or intake as this oil promotes menstruation.
