Nourishing with Avocado Oil

Is avocado oil good for the hair? Rich in nutrients, amino acids, and essential fatty acids, this nutritional oil is excellent for enhancing hair health. It supplies vitamins A, B, D, and E to nourish both hair follicles and the scalp. Vitamin E also acts as a protective antioxidant. It has natural humectant properties, adding and locking in moisture. The monounsaturated fatty acids will give hair a glossy shine and silky texture. The amino acids will promote the growth of new hair cells.

Anyone will benefit from an avocado oil hair treatment, but it is particularly useful for damaged, chemical-treated hair. Dry, brittle locks are a sign of a nutrient-deprived hair. Avocado oil is a simple, natural, and inexpensive solution to replenish hair with the nourishment it needs to recover and thrive. Frizzy hair also benefits from avocado oil, as it will relax chaotic strands.

Hair Treatments

There are several different methods for treating the hair and scalp with avocado oil. Use as frequently as desired, although regular treatment will yield the best results.

  • Before washing, rub two tablespoons into the scalp in circular motions. Leave in for five minutes. Rinse out and wash hair as normal. This can be done on a daily basis.
  • For severely dry and damaged hair, whisk together one tablespoon avocado oil, one tablespoon olive oil, one egg white, and four drops of rosemary essential oil. Apply to hair, massaging scalp with fingers. Leave on for ten minutes, before rinsing out and shampooing.
  • Add one teaspoon of avocado oil to conditioner. Condition hair as normal, leaving in hair for three minutes before rinsing. This can be done every day as well.
  • For a hot oil treatment, blend equal parts of avocado and olive oils. Heat slightly. Massage into hair and scalp until evenly distributed. Dip a towel in hot water, and ring out excess water. Wrap the towel around the head for fifteen minutes. Rinse out oils and wash as normal.

Shine with Avocado

Avocado oil can be found in most grocery stores and health food markets. Organic avocado oil is a purer product, although it is not necessary for hair health. Store oil in a cool, dry cabinet, away from light, moisture, and heat. Don’t leave a bottle of avocado oil in the bathroom where it is often humid and warm. Like other nutritional oils, avocado oil will go rancid easily. Buy a small bottle and try using entire contents within four weeks.

Knowing how to use avocado oil for hair is a great way to treat hair without expensive products. This natural substance is simple, nutrient-rich, and very effective. Hair will not only look and feel glossy and smooth, but it will be healthy. Integrating avocado oil hair treatments into your regular routine will, over time, lead to incredibly strong, beautiful hair.
