Fatigue

Fatigue is the state of being tired, a feeling of exhaustion, or having a lack of energy. It can be caused by a number of reasons, including poor sleep, overworking, not enough exercise, stress, certain medications, an illness like the flu, or a medical condition like a thyroid problem.

Most cases of fatigue are temporary. If it lasts longer than two weeks, physical or emotional problems should be ruled out by a health care provider. Severe and persistent cases are called chronic fatigue syndrome.

Fatigue Natural Cures

Siberian Ginseng

Siberian ginseng has been used for hundreds of years in Eastern countries to increase energy, vitality, and longevity. In Russia, it is widely used as an adaptogen (a substance that helps the body better cope with stress, physically and mentally). It is frequently suggested to increase muscle strength and improve physical stamina.

Distant relatives of Siberian ginseng, American and Asian ginseng, can also help alleviate stress and fatigue.

Green Tea

Instead of drinking coffee, have a cup of green tea. It is the least processed of teas (black and oolong), meaning it provides the most polyphenols (antioxidants), notably a catechin called EGCG (epigallocatechin-3-gallate), which is believed to be responsible for many of its health benefits.

Research from Japan suggests EGCG may offset the signs of mental and physical fatigue related with stressful lives. Fatigued animals who were fed with EGCG were able to swim longer than fatigued animals who did not receive EGCG.

Reishi Mushroom

A strong cup of reishi tea is often recommended by practitioners in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat fatigue.

Green Smoothies

For a quick and healthy energy lift, drink a green smoothie. Wheat grass, spirulina, barley greens, chlorella, and blue-green algae are some nutrient-rich ingredients you can add.

Hot Spices

Hot peppers, horseradish, ginger, and cinnamon are some spices that increase circulation and counteract physical sensations (such as feeling cold and tense) associated with fatigue.

B Vitamins

B vitamins are essential to energy production. Besides taking a B-complex supplement, be sure to eat plenty of whole (unprocessed) foods, such as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.

Aromatherapy

Inhaling certain scents can be invigorating. Apply a few drops of essential oil on a cotton ball and place it in a ziplock baggie. When you need a “pick me up”, open the baggie and take a whiff. Uplifting oils include citrus (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, and lime), rosemary, bergamot, lemongrass, cypress, and sage. Make sure you buy 100% pure essential oils.

You can also use essential oils in bath water, with a massage, or in oil burners (candles).

More fatigue natural cures (and prevention)…

As with any ailment, treatment and prevention should include:

• Addressing any underlying causes (for example, if you are fatigued because of stress, try yoga or meditation or talk to a therapist).

• Eating healthy. Avoid or limit simple sugars (if you do eat it, eat it with foods that are high in protein and healthy fats). Sugar can cause a fast burst of energy but it goes away quickly (often, after the “crash”, the body will feel worst than what it did before getting a “sugar rush”). This can disrupt glucose and insulin levels which is not good for the body and may lead to type II diabetes. Include all food groups in your diet. Avoid or limit processed foods and saturated fats. Avoid trans fats (including hydrogenated oils).

• Drinking adequate amounts of water (at least eight 8-ounces a day).

• Exercising regularly to keep the muscles strong and the blood circulating.

• Not smoking (find natural ways to quit smoking).

• Avoiding or limiting alcohol intake. Men should have no more than 2 drinks a day and women should have no more than 1 drink a day).
