Natural Remedies for Folliculitis: Learn How to Treat This Painful Condition Naturally and Learn About Herbs That Treat Folliculitis
Folliculitis is a skin condition in which the hair follicles on an area of the body become infected. Some people with folliculitis only experience it on one part of their body and some experience it on several parts of their body. The lesions caused by this condition resemble small pimples with white heads. The majority of the lesions are superficial and cause no pain, though they may itch, and go away on their own in a few days. However, some people may experience lesions that are recurring, deep and painful. When these occur, natural remedies may be used to treat folliculitus.
Salt Water Soak
A very effective natural remedy for folliculitis is a salt water soak. To do this fill up a bathtub with warm water and add a healthy dose of salt. Ease into the tub and soak for at least thirty minutes. For those with a severe case of folliculitis or those who have a carbuncle or boil should do this about three times daily for best results. They should continue using this natural remedy for folliculitis until their symptoms either disappear or significantly decrease. Those who are unable to sit in a bathtub for thirty minutes can use a towel soaked in warm salt water. Once this towel is soaked they should ring it out and apply it to the affected area for thirty minutes, several times a day.
Oatmeal and Baking Soda Baths
Taking a bath in either oatmeal or baking soda is an effective natural remedy for foliculitis. Those who use baking soda should fill the bathtub with warm water and add a healthy dose of baking soda. After the baking soda is added, stir it for a minute or two and soak for thirty minutes. Those using oatmeal should fill a bathtub with warm water and add plenty of oatmeal. The ratio of oatmeal and water should be nearly even. Once this is done they should soak for thirty minutes. These baths can be repeated several times a day and they can also be alternated.
