Home Remedies for Toothaches: Get Natural Relief for Toothache Pain
Toothaches
Toothaches can be a result from a number of causes, including periodontal disease, sinus problems, or a piece of food stuck between your teeth.
Most toothaches can be prevented by taking good care of your teeth. Brush, floss, visit your dentist regularly, and avoid hard candies and excess sugar.
The following home remedies for toothaches may cure your problem or at least subside the pain until you are able to see your dentist.
Treating Toothaches Naturally
Ice
Ice suppresses pain at the nerve endings and has an excellent numbing effect. Crush some ice, wrap it in some gauze or cheese cloth, and place it next to your affected tooth.
Garlic
Peel a fresh clove of garlic, slice it in half, place the sliced end of the garlic on the affected area, and leave it there for at least 1 hour. Garlic is a natural antibiotic with antiseptic properties and can help relieve toothache pain. Onions also kill germs in your mouth and can be placed on your bad tooth.
Clove Oil
Clove oil is a natural analgesic (pain killer) and antibiotic. Add 2-3 drops of pure clove oil to 1/4 teaspoon of olive oil and mix. Soak a cotton ball in the mixture and place it in your mouth next to your aching tooth. You can also use a whole clove. Dip it in warm honey and chew on it slowly, rolling it around the affected area (this will release the essential oil).
Sage
For toothaches, prepare a stronger-than-usual cup of sage tea and drink. Before you swallow, hold the hot tea in your mouth where you wish to relieve pain for 30 seconds. Be careful not to burn yourself. Repeat doing this until you finish your cup.
Chamomile
Prepare a cup of chamomile tea, dip a washcloth in it, wring it out, and apply it over your skin (the outside area of your toothache). When the cloth cools down, re-dip, and reapply. This home remedy will help draw out the pain.
Other home remedies for toothaches include:
- apply a few grains of cayenne pepper to your bad tooth
- add 1 teaspoon of Epsom salt to 1 cup of hot water, swish around in your mouth, and spit out
- rinse your mouth with the juice of wheat grass
- dip a cotton ball in vanilla extract and apply it to your aching tooth for an amazing numbing effect
- place a piece of cold cucumber over the affected area to relieve toothache pain
