What should your pH levels be?

Normal body pH levels range from a low of 6.4 to a high of 7.5. If your pH is lower than 6.4 you’re considered acidic, while numbers higher than 7.5 would indicate an alkaline body chemistry.

Test your saliva pH

By using litmus paper you can do a quick test to see where your pH levels are. This is not a precise test but its close enough to give you an idea. To do this test, simply wet a strip of litmus paper with your saliva. The results, before a meal, should be in the range of 6.4 to 6.8. The pH reading after a meal should be in the range of 7.5. If, overall, your pH reading is between 6.5 and 7.5, your body is functioning well. If not, then it’s time to do something about it.

Diet changes

Your diet should be the first thing to consider when you’re aiming to raise your body pH. You’re going to want to eat foods that are high in alkaline such as fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes and, nuts and seeds. This is not surprising is it? What might be surprising are the specific vegetables and fruits that are more acidic than others.

You’ll definitely want to avoid processed foods, red meat, white flours and refined sugars. Skip the sodas too. (Coca-cola products have pH range of 2.5 - 4.2.) Stick with water but be sure to test the pH of your water while you’re at it. You’d be surprised which popular bottled waters are very acidic. Arrowhead bottled water is on the alkaline side.

Another water to consider drinking while you raise your body pH level is Kangen water, or an ionized water. Ionizer water machines are available to make your own ionized water, but be sure to closely follow the instructions so that you don’t detox your body too quickly in the process.

Edible clay such as Terramin is another way to raise your body’s pH level while supplying a broad range of minerals including highly absorbable calcium.
