Third Eye Guided Meditation: Activating the Ajna Chakra

Third Eye Guided Meditation: Activating the Ajna Chakra
Page content

Third Eye guided meditation is all about activating the Ajina Chakra, the sixth chakra in the Kundalini Seven Chakra system. A chakra is an energy centre that regulates the bodily functions of a particular region in the body.

The Ajna Chakra, among others, governs the pituitary gland and the frontal lobes of the brain. The literal meaning of Ajna Chakra is `To Command.’ It is also called the `Third Eye,’ Guru Chakra, Eye of Shiva or the Divine Eye. Ajna Chakra also known as the conscience.

What is the Third Eye compared to our two eyes? Our two eyes can only see the past and the present. The third, eye, located between the eyebrows, if properly activated, can catch a glimpse into the future.

Benefits of Third Eye Meditation

The following are the main benefits of Third Eye Meditation:

  • Sharpens your intuitive powers
  • Heightens your psychic powers
  • Provides clarity when it comes to thought, wisdom and insights
  • Ability to read others and identify what kind of energy source they carry—positive or negative
  • Builds focus of the mind and concentration
  • Promotes good health and well-being.

How to Perform Third Eye Guided Meditation

This will be timed meditation. For starters, you can set your timer to about 20 minutes.

The best position to adopt is to sit cross-legged on the floor. If that’s not possible, you also could sit on a chair or against a wall.

You then have to align your spine to the back of the head. If you are used to sitting with a stooping posture, you have to straighten your spine in an upward position. Raise your chin slightly so that the back of your head aligns with your spine.

Once you’ve got your posture correct, you need to go into relaxation mode. Take five slow but deep breaths through your nose. These breaths will pump oxygen into your blood and help calm you down.

Place your hands in a comfortable position, anywhere on your body or on a table if you’re sitting on a chair. Once you’re comfortable, don’t move unnecessarily.

With your head positioned straight, move your eyes to an imaginary position around the center of your forehead, over your eyebrows. Once you’ve got your focus, close your eyes. Just be relaxed and don’t put pressure or strain on your eyes.

Take a deep breath and at the same time chant the AUM mantra. The chant should end when you finish exhaling. In short, when you inhale, you should chanting AU and when you exhale, you should be chanting MMM.

Repeat the chant when you’ve fully exhaled. As you keep on chanting, picture the AUM sound coming from the middle of your forehead and flowing through your entire body.

Do you feel a strain in your eyes as you continue with the meditation? Stop focusing on the middle of your forehead. Let your eyes be free. However, continue chanting the AUM mantra.

When the timer goes off, open your eyes slowly. If your eyes feel strained or tired, rub your palms together and place them on your eyes for comfort.

Extra Tips

As far as possible, try to meditate in the morning when your concentration level is high.

Avoid falling asleep while meditating.

If you find other thoughts intruding, bring your concentration back to the chanting (AUM) or to the middle of the forehead.

Don’t expect to see results with Third Eye guided meditation in a day or two. You’ll need to practice this meditation consistently before you can see results. If you keep at it, you’ll soon feel a kind of pleasant pressure on your forehead, a kind of pulsing if you like. You may also see lights, colors or vortexes emanating from it. Don’t panic. You’re getting closer to activating your Third Eye.
