Cinnamon Bark Oil Overview

Cinnamon bark oil is steam distilled from the bark of the cinnamon plant. It’s a strong oil with similar health benefits to nutmeg essential oil. To learn more about nutmeg essential oil, click here. Cinnamon bark oil has a strong, spicy and familiar scent that reminds people of fall and winter. Indeed, some aromatherapists recommend diffusing essential oil during the winter months to ward off dampness and chill.

Cinnamon essential oil is popular as aroom freshener during the winter and holiday months. Try diffusing a drop or two into a room for a warm, homey scent.

Fights Nausea and Vomiting

Like nutmeg essential oil, cinnamon bark oil also can help with digestive problems such as nausea, vomiting, intestinal cramping and even diarrhea. You can use it to help with digestive problems in a variety of ways. Try making a warm compress to cover the stomach and dripping a drop directly onto the compress. You could also simply inhale the oil to help with nausea.

Never take cinnamon oil internally. If you want to take cinnamon internally, try the powder form.

Helps with Menstrual Cramps

If you’re experiencing menstrual cramps, but don’t want to take a commercial medication, try using cinnamon essential oil. Diffuse a little in the room you’re in or add a few drops to a warm bath. You could also apply a warm compress to the stomach area and drizzle a drop directly onto the compress.

Improves Muscle Aches

Like nutmeg essential oil, cinnamon oil can also help with muscular aches, especially after exercising. Create a massage blend by adding a drop of cinnamon essential oil to about half a cup (if you have sensitive skin, try a full cup) of massage oil. Massage into the affected area.

Improves Libido

Traditionally, cinnamon bark oil was an aphrodisiac, meaning it improved flagging libidos. If you or your partner wants to improve your sex life, try adding some to a diffuser to use in your bedroom at night. You could also create a massage oil with the cinnamon oil and give your partner a massage. Add only one drop of cinnamon bark oil to about a half to a full cup of massage oil.

Since cinnamon essential oil is so strong, it should never be used (even diffused in a carrier oil) on sensitive portions of the body, including the genital area.
