There are many types of tea and flavors such as pomegranate green tea, vanilla black tea, orange white tea, etc., so you will most likely find one that you enjoy. Plus, you can reduce your risk of cancer and prevent other health problems since there are some health benefits of drinking tea.

The consumption of tea started in China more than 5,000 years ago. The myth behind how tea was discovered started with a Chinese emperor named Shen Nung. It was common practice to boil water, and one day while the emperor stopped to rest with his men, leaves fell into the boiling water. Although this is a myth about how tea was discovered, some think that this might have been what really happened. Over time, tea evolved and made an impression on the Japanese culture. The Japanese Tea Ceremony was started, and it also become an inspiration for architecture with the tea houses. Tea became a symbol for purity and detoxification, but the therapeutic value of tea was not realized until later.

Tea contains flavonoids (antioxidants), which prevent free radicals from damaging healthy cells. Tea is derived from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. In order to make green tea, the leaves are steamed, but for black tea, the leaves are withered. Spices and fruit can be added to them to enhance the flavoring. Some tea drinkers use honey, sugar, milk and lemon to sweeten their tea, but there are other alternatives like pear honey and agave nectar.

So what are the benefits of drinking green tea? Green tea is high in catechins, which reduce the risk for disease. If you are an individual with poor blood circulation, try green tea with ginger. To double your antioxidant power, drink pomegranate green tea. Regardless of what kind of green tea you drink, you are taking a step toward reducing your chances of developing cancers that affect the bladder, breast, skin, lung, colon and esophagus.

Control Your Cholesterol

When it comes to decreasing your cholesterol, it can be challenging, but green, black and oolong teas can assist your body in reducing LDL (bad) cholesterol and increasing HDL cholesterol. Because of their positive effect on cholesterol, these types of tea can reduce your risk for heart disease and stroke. Although it has not been researched in detail, there is a relationship between tea drinking and weight too. More research is required to prove whether tea has an effect on weight gain.

Strengthen Your Immune System

Drinking tea can also boost your immune system or put you on the road to recovery. Vitamins C and E can strengthen your immunity, but the catechins in green tea are more powerful than both of these vitamins. When you have a head cold or sinus infection, teas with eucalyptus or mint can relieve sinus pressure and enable you to breathe. Adding honey to the tea can calm the inflammation in your throat. When you are experiencing the chills from the flu, a cup of hot tea can warm your body from your head to your toes.

Drink More Tea

Tea has an endless amount of therapeutic properties if consumed on a regular basis. It has been shown to reduce the chance of osteoporosis and re-occurrence of kidney stones. In addition, it may also prevent cancers of the skin and ovaries. With all of the potential health benefits of tea, it’s worth having at least a dose of it every day. Keeping your body healthy is challenging, but drinking tea is a good place to start.
