Natural Herbs for Vertigo Relief
What Causes Vertigo?
The sensations of faintness, impaired balance and troubled equilibrium are vertigo. It may feel like you are falling or that everything around you is spinning. Nausea and hearing loss are other associated symptoms. Sometimes vertigo occurs upon standing up or changing position. It may also be triggered by anxiety, motion sickness or a lack of oxygen to the brain. What is happening in the body for vertigo to occur is that the central nervous system receives mixed sensory messages from the eyes, muscles and/or inner ear.
While seeking vertigo relief is important and using herbal remedies can be very helpful for preventing the dizziness, spinning and even nausea, it is also important to understand that vertigo is caused by something, such as high blood pressure, poor circulation, diabetes, the use of some drugs, stress or even a brain tumor. Talk to your doctor about using herbs for vertigo and about what may be causing the sensation, particularly if episodes become a reoccurring problem.
Helpful Herbs
The following herbs can all be used to bring natural relief to vertigo sufferers, depending on the cause of this health problem.
- Ginger is an excellent herbal remedy, improving blood circulation and relieving nausea.
- Ginkgo biloba increases circulation and oxygen flow to the brain.
- Linden blossom helps to lower high blood pressure and to treat narrowed arteries. It also is a calming herb, beneficial if chronic stress and anxiety are part of the contributing factors of vertigo.
- Dandelion is a wonderful herb for high blood pressures as a natural diuretic. It also supplies important nutrients to the body, such as potassium and B vitamins.
- Oat straw will improve the strength of vascular walls while also benefiting the nervous system and supplying vitamins and minerals.
To use these herbs as a natural remedy for vertigo you can drink an herbal infusion. Steep 2 teaspoons of dried herbs in 1 cup boiling water for 10 minutes. Ginger tea is delicious in the afternoon with a little honey. Oat straw and linden blossom blend well for a relaxing late night herbal tea. Dandelion can be taken in tea, tincture or capsule form. Ginkgo biloba is found in some herbal blends, but also works well in supplement form. Always purchase herbal products from high-quality, trusted, natural sources.
Using Herbal Remedies
These herbs are safe for general use, except for ginkgo biloba, which can cause problems if used in conjunction with prescription blood thinners or over-the-counter painkillers. Herbs for vertigo have much to offer as they can help balance problems which may be causing an imbalance, such as blood pressure issues, circulation problems and stress. If natural remedies such as herbs and eating a healthy diet do not bring vertigo relief, be sure to talk to your doctor about other potential causes that may be more serious.
