Why You Should Give Up Fast Food

With the fast food culture rising steadily in our society, its hard to believe that there is someone among us who hasn’t tried a ready meal, ordered a take-away, or eaten at a burger bar. It’s easy. It’s convenient. And it’s inexpensive. But do you have any idea about what you are actually consuming when you are eating those so tasty burgers in a fast food restaurant? The ingredients in these food products are not only harmful for you health, but if you listen to the experiences of some people, they are surely going to gross you out. Let’s have a look at some of the fast food facts and the experiences of some people:

  • French fries are actually made in huge factories, frozen, and then processed. The oils and fats are highly processed and highly fatty.

  • So often, people have reported finding strands of hair and flies in their burgers. And it’s definitely not once a while experience. What about those which were actually not found and ended up inside your stomach because you were too busy to notice them?

  • Processed foods are filled with unhealthy ingredients. They are loaded with fats, sugar, salt, and artificial additives. They are not only responsible for the rising number of obesity cases in children and adults, but they also have serious long-term effects on your health.

  • Order iced tea and get it with some sanitizer. A customer actually had this experience with a popular fast food restaurant. She actually got a McDonalds sanitizer in it. This is a cleaning chemical used for kitchen equipment and surfaces. No wonder she decided to sue the restaurant.

  • With all the processing and manufacturing that fast food goes through, a lot of essential nutrients go missing. Fibers, vitamins, and minerals get destroyed during this process and what it leaves for you is just unhealthy fats and empty calories.

  • Hamburgers are made in huge factories. And one hamburger can contain strips of beef from different cattle from different regions. This increases the risk of contamination as one sick cow in the batch can actually make hundreds of people fall sick in different locations of the country.

  • Health guidelines clearly state that people should not consume more than 2 grams of trans-fat a day. But when you consume fast food, such as French fries, you can actually end up consuming about 4-7 grams of trans-fat. This is way too much and definitely not good for your heart.

  • Fast food restaurants add a lot of preservatives to keep their food looking fresh. If you want to find out how much of preservatives are present in fast food, try keeping a hamburger for a year. A customer has actually kept a hamburger for 12 years and it still looks all ready to eat.

  • Almost everything that you consume in a fast food restaurant is processed; the taste of the original ingredients is destroyed. So, additives are added for giving flavor to the food. These include beef extract and sometimes they won’t even tell you which animal product is being used to give the flavor to your French fries.

  • Probably most of us have ended up with food poisoning at least once in our life after eating in a fast food restaurant. Raw meat, unhygienic conditions, and even strange employee behaviors (some of them have actually reported spitting into the food!) are only a few things that happen and are reported regularly.

So, the next time you think of ordering fast food, think about where it is coming from and where it has been. And don’t forget, the unhealthy ingredients used in your fast food don’t just lead to food poisoning, they lead to long-term life-threatening illnesses such as obesity, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes.
