The GE Juice Extractor Juicer Review
Price (5 out of 5)
For a mere $49.99 plus tax at our local Wal-Mart, this juicer was neither the most expensive nor the least expensive option available. A Black and Decker brand juicer was only $29.99, but before we decided to purchase either, we discovered the GE model had a 800 watt motor, making it twice as powerful as the Black and Decker. Jack Lelane’s juicers are usually $100, and Juiceman brand juicers range anywhere from $60 to $200 depending on the model and vendor. While we’d loved to have a Juiceman, being new to juicing, we decided to go for something a bit more practical and affordable. Anyone who is new to juicing cannot beat this price.
Ease of Use (5 out of 5)
We were impressed with how easy this was to use. It is incredibly easy to assemble. The chute is moderately sized, making it easy to accommodate most vegetables and fruits, but unlike more powerful juicers, the produce needs to be cut, peeled, and seeded before being placed into the machine. There are two settings, one for soft and one for crisp vegetables.
It’s pretty simple. Hold a glass at the bottom of the juicer spout to catch the juice. Throw your produce in the chute, with the top ready to plunge down into it, and turn the machine on. Wait a few moments after turning the machine off to allow it to spit out anymore juice, and enjoy.
Cleaning and Care (3 out of 5)
It can be a bit bothersome to clean, but the fact that it disassembles well makes it a little easier to empty the peeling and other “guts,” as they’ve so been deemed, into the garbage. (They make excellent additions to a compost pile, too.) The hardest part to clean is the blade and filter. It’s like a cup, and is very sharp so you have to stay away from the bottom, but the sides are a very fine wire mesh, which makes it very hard to get rid of all the tiny pieces of pulp and skin that were filtered out of the juice. Diligence and patience are all it requires though.
Noise (2 out of 5)
I’ve never been around any other juicers, so I really can’t tell you if this is loud or not. For an 800 watt motor, I would guess the noise level is appropriate, however, I was hoping for something a little more quiet. If it weren’t for the fact that my family could sleep through an earthquake, I’d be worried about making juice while someone was sleeping, but to give you an idea of how much noise the thing really makes; it’s no louder than a blender or a vacuum.
Overall Thoughts (5 out of 5)
I use my juicer every day, and think we made a wise selection for a first juicer. I’m going to upgrade to a bigger and better one later, because having to cut and seed fruits for just one glass of juice becomes a pain. Though it’s not as convenient as being able to throw whole fruits in and get yummy juice, we are pleased and recommend our juicer to everyone we know. GE Juicers and other small appliances come with a 2 year warranty, giving us just one more reason to love it.
