Importance of Security Physical Fitness Training

If you’re working in a security career or thinking about getting into the field, security physical fitness training is important for you. When you work in a security career, being physically fit is essential not only for your health, but for your safety as well. In a worst case scenario, you must have the physical strength and endurance to defend yourself against an attacker. Since providing security is your main job function, fitness training is needed to prepare yourself for difficult situations.

Strength training, endurance training and cardio are the most important work outs for security officers. Strength training will build muscle mass, giving you the power to defend yourself and overthrow an assailant. Hopefully you won’t be in any such situation, but a good security officer is prepared for any scenario. Endurance training and cardio will physically prepare you for the massive amounts of walking you’ll likely be doing as well as any emergency situations that may arise.

Security Fitness: Strength Training

Strength training uses weights and other muscular intensive workout routines. Building muscle strength is the main objective of this type of security physical fitness training. Each major muscle group should be targeted in workout routines for strength training. A day of training should be followed by a day of rest for each muscle group (to give the muscle a chance to rebuild after being broken down). One way to get around this is to work upper body muscles on one day and lower body muscles the next day. This technique allows for daily workout with a day of rest for each muscle group in between. Major muscle groups for strength training are: abs, arms, legs, shoulders and chest.

Security Fitness: Endurance Training

Endurance training increases stamina and endurance. These are both important for security guards because of the amount of walking that comes along with the job. In addition, endurance training will prepare you for any long distance running you may have to do. You never know when you’ll need to get to an emergency situation in a hurry or chase after an intruder. Endurance training will ensure that you don’t run out of steam before you get the job done.

Security Fitness: Aerobic Training

Aerobic training has many health benefits. Aerobic workouts are important for security fitness because it will keep weight under control and help give optimal results for strength and endurance training. The American Heart Association recommends 30 minutes of aerobic exercises per day. Aerobic training is a workout that increases your heart rate for a specified amount of time. Examples of types of aerobic workouts are: running, jogging, indoor cycling, bicycle riding, swimming, etc.
