Fun Part-Time Jobs That Pay You to Exercise

If you want to lose weight, get in shape and build up your bank account, here are some fun part-time jobs to consider:

  • Paper route: Even though it’s a job commonly associated with children, a paper route can be a great way to earn extra money as an adult. If you walk or ride your bike to deliver the papers, it’s also an excellent workout.
  • Dog walker: If you live in a larger community and you enjoy being around animals, consider offering your services as a dog walker. This is one of those fun part-time jobs that doesn’t necessarily pay well, but you’ll be able to get in a decent workout while indulging your passion for canine companionship.
  • Babysitter: As every parent knows, there’s no better way to exercise than chasing around a toddler. If you don’t have kids of your own or your kids are too old to enjoy an afternoon at the park, offer to give a neighborhood mother a much deserved break. Playing on the jungle gym, jumping rope and riding bikes is a fun way to burn off extra calories.
  • Security guard: If you’re a night owl, consider seeing if any companies in your area are looking for part-time security guards. Some will hire people with no previous experience, assuming you can pass a criminal background check and drug test. In many cases, the work consists of simply patrolling the area on foot and reporting any trouble to the proper authorities.

Fun Part-Time Jobs for Fitness Fanatics

For the truly committed fitness fanatic, the following opportunities can be a great way to earn extra money while sneaking in a good workout:

  • Youth sports coach: Schools and community organizations are always in need of people who are willing to coach youth sports. If you enjoy working with children and have a passion for a sport such as basketball, volleyball, football, or soccer, this can be a great opportunity to get paid to exercise.
  • Fitness class instructor: Whether you’re interested in kickboxing, aerobics, yoga, or dance, there’s probably a teaching opportunity available at your local gym. For the truly adventurous, consider teaching a class in cardio striptease or pole dancing. Requirements for employment vary according to the size of gym you work for, but most instructors are paid on a per class basis and receive a complementary gym membership. Continuing education and/or certification opportunities may also be available as an employment benefit.
  • Personal trainer: A personal trainer works with clients one-on-one to help them reach their fitness goals. Certification is typically required, but the position can be very lucrative if you discover a passion for this type of work.
