Developing a Wii Fit Weight Loss Plan: Achieve Success Without Getting Bored
Losing Weight
The Wii Fit, released for the Nintendo Wii in May 2008, incorporates yoga, strength training, and aerobic activities into short video games that are simple enough for even a novice gamer to enjoy. The game starts out with a few basic exercises in each category, but additional features are added as you spend more time playing. Step-by-step tutorials are provided to make it easier to master new moves.
Aside from the fitness games, the Wii Fit offers the following benefits:
- Track your weight
- Measure your BMI
- Track how much time you spend playing the game each day
- Add points for additional physical exercise
- Get fitness and healthy lifestyle tips from your virtual trainer
The Wii Fit can be purchased wherever video games are sold. The game retails for approximately $80. The higher than average price can be attributed to the inclusion of the pressure sensitive balance board that supports up to 330 pounds. However, new titles are being released on a monthly basis which make use of the balance board for additional gaming fitness benefits.
A Word of Caution
Although the Wii Fit does have many features that can help make exercise fun, be aware that the program does occasionally offer feedback that can be a bit brutal. For example, the basic balance test at the beginning of the game will ask, “Do you find yourself tripping when you walk?” if you fail to obtain a passing score. Watching your Mii (a virtual representation of you) expand whenever you put on a few pounds can also be rather distressing if you are a bit on the sensitive side.
The Importance of a Healthy Diet
Unfortunately, no Wii Fit weight loss plan is complete without a healthy diet. Increasingly your daily physical activity by playing games on the Wii Fit is a good start, but to reach your weight loss goals you’ll also need to start cutting calories.
For someone who is unaccustomed to strict dieting, Weight Watchers is a good plan to teach the basic principles of nutrition. If you don’t want to attend group meetings, they offer an online program that provides many of the same basic features. In addition to counting points, Weight Watchers members try to implement healthy habits such as the following:
- Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day.
- Look for ways to increase your fruit and vegetable intake, such as having a strawberry banana smoothie as a snack or adding extra vegetables to your pasta sauce.
- Find low-fat substitutes when preparing your favorite dishes, such as making brownies with applesauce instead of vegetable oil.
