Most of us lives fast pace lives. It seems like we have to be everywhere at once and do everything at once. Sometimes we feel like we need a little extra energy to help us get through our busy days and all of the tasks we need to complete. Many of us often turn to energy drinks to help us get this extra boost of energy. Yet, there are health hazards from energy drinks that we are subjecting our bodies to each and every time we down one of these flavorful drinks.

Of course, the main hazard is very easy to spot. Energy drinks are addictive. We like the way they makes us feel. We like this added boost of energy and soon we can easily become dependent upon them.

Yet, there are other side effects of energy drinks that we may not be as aware of when we first begin drinking them, such as:

Increasing Our Heart Rate

The extra sugar and caffeine that is contained in most energy drinks can cause our heart rate to increase. This is one way in which we can achieve new founded energy. Yet, this increase heart rate is not good on our bodies. In fact, this increase in our heart rates can cause serious health risks including heart attack, stroke and even heart disease.

Birth Defects in Children

Some studies concluded that pregnant woman should not drink energy drinks due to the possibility of birth defects to their unborn babies.

Insomnia

The added energy that we get from these energy drinks are great during the day. Yet, when night comes we may still be filled with this energy. Our bodies are still filled with the stimulants that are found in the drink (caffeine and sugar for example) and sleep often does not want to come.

Over time the body can suffer many health risks by not getting enough sleep. This can include headaches, a rise in blood pressure and mood swings.

Weight Gain

Energy drinks are also filled with a lot of calories. Prolonged use of these drinks can cause weight gain over time.

Yes, an extra jolt of energy may be nice. But if you find yourself needing this jolt on a daily or semi daily basis, you should come up with another solution besides downing an energy drink. Look at your diet. Consider adding exercise to your routine. Get more sleep at night. Finally, consult your doctor.

But be sensible when it comes to drinking those flavorful energy drinks. Hazards of energy drinks should always play in your decision as to whether or not you really should drink one.
