Preserving your Eyesight with Cataract Natural Treatments

A general definition of cataracts is the formation of a clump of protein on some part of the lens of the eye. They fall into two basic categories: senile (age-related) and inherited. Fortunately, cataract natural treatments have proven effective in both cases. They have not only halted the progression of this condition in some patients, but have also reversed it, resulting in a complete cure. There are some important things to keep in mind regarding the formation of cataracts. They should not be accepted as a normal part of aging nor should they be viewed as inevitable even when genetically prone to developing them.

Groups at Higher Risk

It’s equally important to know how you can greatly reduce your chances of developing cataracts and the urgency with which you should act once informed that you have them. Several recent studies indicate that exposure to ultraviolet light may be linked to their development. Sunglasses can actually serve as protective eyewear for some people, depending on their profession or recreational activities. Mail carriers are a good example of people who would want to reduce their exposure to sunlight. A study carried out in Iceland in 2005, appears to reveal that various forms of radiation also raise the risks of developing cataracts. Astronauts are at some risk from their exposure to cosmic radiation and airline pilots are now being alerted to the need to take special care of their eyes.

Excessive eye strain, a diet low in nutrients, smoking, consumption of alcohol, and diabetes greatly raise the risk of developing cataracts. Cataract natural treatments, like any other health treatments, in order to be effective, require cleaning up ones diet and abandoning unhealthy habits. If a boat was sinking, no one would simply attempt to get the water out; they would also do all they could to stop more water from entering.

Realize the Power of Nutrients

Wholesome foods and all natural medicinal herbs, properly used, are more powerful in the restoration of health than any chemical medicine. I’ve been personally involved with using all natural medicine in the medically verifiable cure of bronchitis, pneumonia, and breast cancer. Most people have heard how good eating carrots are for the eyes; however, few fully realize just how vital the consumption of them are. They contain ample amounts of beta carotene, the precursor to vitamin A. Equally important is the presence of green leafy vegetables in the diet due to their rich content of vitamin C, beta carotene and lutein, a carotenoid.

The intake of these nutrients aren’t just recommended. They are absolutely essential to maintain healthy eyes, halt and/or reverse the formation of cataracts. Many people have attempted to replace healthy eating with taking nutritional supplements, but most have been left disappointed. The body was made to obtain vitamins and minerals from organically grown foods, not pills, tablets and capsules. In fact, a study conducted by Harvard University compared the actions of vitamins C, E, and beta carotene in the body in their natural and synthetic forms. When these nutrients were acquired through a healthy diet, they lowered the risk of cardiovascular disease. The very same vitamins proved to be powerless, and even potentially harmful in their synthetic forms. Man’s pills and formulations will never take the place of wholesome foods.

Cataract natural treatments traditionally involve the daily consumption of organically grown, raw carrots. Since most people don’t want to eat a small bag of carrots each day during treatment, an equivalent amount of fresh carrot juice can be taken daily instead. It’s strongly recommended that you buy only organically grown carrots and juice them yourself with a juicer that turns the carrots into juice rather than simply extracting juice from them. The juice should not be drank when consuming fruits and it should not be interrupted even for one day. It’s believed that consuming two or three cloves of raw garlic daily helps to cleanse the lens of the eyes. They can be chopped finely and added to raw green leafy salads that should be consumed at least every other day. Revisit your eye doctor as often as he recommends, or at least every three months to measure progress. Improvement in the sight should be observed in the individual in approximately three months. Just as only organically grown carrots should be consumed, only organically grown leafy vegetables should be used to make salads.

Cooperate With Nature

Again, it’s just as important to avoid compounding the problem of cataracts as it is to begin treatment as early as possible. Foods to be avoided include white sugar, sugary foods, sugary beverages, coffee, alcohol, and wheat. Most people don’t realize that modern wheat is a hybridized food that has now been linked to the development of diabetes, heart disease, Celiac disease and various cancers. Real wheat includes varieties of heirloom grains such as Spelt, Kamut, and Einkorn. Spelt is a very nutritious and delicious grain that was grown in ancient Mesopotamia. It is used in the same manner as modern whole “wheat,” but usually requires a little more liquid. Kamut is one of the grains that was grown in ancient Egypt and makes wonderful pancakes. These grains, or the flour from them is usually sold in health food stores or in the health food section of many grocery stores.
