Primordial sound meditation is a type of healing meditation technique which anyone can practice, to improve well-being on all levels.

Simple and accessible to all, they are powerful tools for achieving a state of mental and emotional calm, which is essential for physical health. According to ancient Vedic spiritual teachings, these sounds change with the shifting position of the moon. Through Vedic-based mathematical calculation, an individual can learn his or her personal mantra from the primordial sounds that resonated at the time of birth. This mantra can be used in primordial sound meditation to elevate consciousness and expand awareness.

    Meditating with Ah

    Even without a personal mantra, one can meditate with this technique. Universal mantras are just as important and beneficial. Ah for example, is considered to be the first vibration. It is the sound of creation, of creative and primordial energy. Simply repeating this sound, Aaaaahhhh, in meditation, will help an individual resonate with this joyful, creative force. The mantra does not have to be spoken out loud, but rather repeated in the mind.

    In practice, it is helpful to raise the point of awareness up the chakra system, while repeating Ah, and toning each center. Start by feeling the resonance at the base of the spine, then the navel, followed by the heart chakra (located in the center of the chest), the throat, and the third eye (located just above the center of the brow). This meditation can be used to help attune to universal energy and to attract positive manifestations in life.

    Professional Guidance

    Dr. Deepak Chopra, author, spiritualist, and cofounder of the Chopra Center for Well-Being, re-introduced primordial sound meditation to modern culture. Originally an ancient Vedic form of spiritual healing, today it can be learned by anyone who is interested. There are many certified meditation teachers who have trained under Dr. Chopra, offering courses in this form of healing meditation technique. The Chopra Center for Well-Being will calculate a student's personal mantra during a four-part class taught by a professional. Sessions usually last about two days, and involve group meditations as well as one-on-one interaction with a certified instructor.

    What are the benefits of meditating with primordial sounds? Like most forms of mind-body medicine, this technique will help relieve stress, anxiety, nervousness, and insomnia. It is extremely beneficial for anyone who is under emotional or mental duress. Regular meditation also lowers blood pressure, strengthens the immune system, and increases energy.
