An itchy scalp is very annoying and uncomfortable to anyone who experiences it. Dandruff, overuse of hair products, and an accumulation of shampoo in the hair are some causes of chronic itchiness. Dandruff refers to a chronic scalp condition characterized by oily looking flakes and scaling scalp. Some causes of dandruff include a yeast-like fungus (malassezia), eczema, and oily skin. They lead to itchiness that aggravates this condition, making your scalp vulnerable to infection or irritation because of scratching.

Using a home remedy for chronic itchy scalp can help alleviate the symptoms of this condition. Below are remedies commonly used:

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apply apple cider vinegar to your scalp directly, allowing the vinegar to absorb into the roots of the hair for about a half hour or an hour before washing your hair.

Fenugreek Seeds

Soak two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in water overnight to allow them to become soft. In the morning, grind them into a fine paste. Apply the paste immediately to your scalp, leave it on for about one hour, then thoroughly rinse your hair and scalp with a mild shampoo.

Dried Thyme

Boil five tablespoons of dried thyme for ten minutes in two cups of water, strain and cool. Apply half of the solution over damp, clean hair and massage it into your scalp using your fingertips. The other half of the solution can be used for the next day.

Black Pepper and Coconut Oil

Mix and heat up three grams of black pepper along with 300 grams of coconut oil. Turn off the heat when it comes to a boil and sieve with a fine cloth after it cools. Massage this mixture lightly into your scalp using your fingertips.

A Mixture of Dried Rosemary, Witch Hazel Leaves, Comfrey and Nettles

Prepare a mixture of dried rosemary, witch hazel leaves, comfrey, and nettle leaves. Add one half cup total of these herbs to two cups of water and bring to a boil. Allow the mixture to cool then strain. Apply this home remedy to your scalp to help relieve symptoms.

A Mixture of Rosemary and Chamomile Tea

Pour 2 cups of boiling water over 3 chamomile tea bags and 3 sprigs of chopped rosemary. Wash your hair with this mixture after it has been cooled and strained.

Baking Soda

Rub baking soda onto your scalp when your hair is wet and rinse out (do not use shampoo). Your scalp may feel dry at first, but the itchiness should go away after a couple of weeks.

Lemon Juice

Rub lemon juice on your scalp and leave on for several hours before washing. This home remedy for chronic itchy scalp will also bring a glow to your hair.
