Aromatherapy Oils

Aromatherapy is the idea and concept of using scent to change a person’s mood or attitude. This concept occurred through the idea that the mind is the greatest influence on the body and that it could be influenced through sight or scent. There has long been a connection between the brain and the sense of smell. Psychology has long ago made the connection between triggering memories and the smells surrounding those memories. Over the years, aromatherapy has grown from something used in a doctor’s office during therapy sessions into frequent do-it-yourself projects. Aromatherapy candles and washes are commonly sold in stores. Aromatherapy oils are the best though due to the strength of the smells and the easy to use oils. Aromatherapy oils require aromatherapy diffusers to use.

Candle Diffuser

The candle aromatherapy oil diffuser is the most common type of diffuser on the market. This is a glass, shallow bowl that is set on a few legs over a small tea candle. This can be a beautiful piece of decor or a simple diffuser. No matter how this bowl is placed, it is one of the oldest and most effective manners of diffusing aromatherapy oils throughout the home. There is no electricity involved and the only bi-products are heat and a burnt candle. Neither of these are considered environmentally harmful wastes. These diffusers tend to be small and are best for single room dispersion.

Ring Diffuser

Since heat is used to diffuse oil throughout an entire room, there are some who use the lamp bulb to diffuse the oil. This is done on a clay ring that is set on the lamp bulb. The oil is then fed into a small channel that is etched in the ring. As the lamp burns, the oil is diffused quickly. The benefit to this is that it is unseen which means the oils can be used without people knowing about them. The down side to these aromatherapy diffusers is that the lamp has to be on in order for this to work. In addition, if oil gets on the bulb, a fire can be ignited and the bulb will burn out.

Fan Diffuser

Fans allow the air in a room to circulate. A fan diffuser uses the circulation of the air to pass the scent of the oil throughout the air. This method may or may not involve an electric method of heating the oil. For those fan diffusers that do not use heat, the scent of the aromatherapy is very mild but the oil lasts for a much longer time. If the fan diffuser uses a heating element, the aromatherapy scent is much stronger but does not last as long. Both of these methods use electricity to provide the aromatherapy agent to the room and those in the room. This can be a simple wall mount or a decorative piece.
