Candida Diet

There are some differing opinions when it comes to eating the proper diet for Candida elimination. Some say you should be on a Candida diet for two to four weeks while other claim it takes six weeks to three months and still others have seen it take six months to a year. So, what I have learned is that it is helpful to actually find a naturopathic physician that can test you for it. If this is not a possibility, please don’t fret. You will actually know when your Candida has gotten better because you will feel like a new person!

We all have different dietary needs, so reading all of the following information would be very helpful in deciding which Candida diet will be the best suited for you. You may be a vegetarian or vegan or even a raw foodist. There is the completely raw food anti-fungal diet that Gabriel Cousens, MD recommends. This diet includes a lot of sprouted and green foods which will enhance your health in every way. You can read his book, Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine to get bountiful information on how to eat in order to kill off the fungus. This diet includes the following: Nuts and seeds, most raw vegetables, avocados, tomatoes, cucumbers, summer squashes, red bell peppers and lemons and limes. Sea vegetables such as nori, wakame, dulse, kelp, hijiki. Oils such as flax, hemp, olive, sesame, coconut, almond and sunflower. Coconut pulp, chlorella, spirulina, Klamath Lake algae, legumes and stevia. Probiotic rich food such as kefir. In his book, there are a myriad of recipes with these ingredients. I highly recommend checking this book out!

Another option is for those who would prefer not to give up meat, grains and some dairy products. You can check out www.yeastconnection.com. This website has a wealth of information including supplements, diet, symptom checklists, etc… Both diets exclude vinegar, brewer’s yeast, sugar, fruit and mushrooms. Along with meat, this diet does include grains and some dairy products including yogurt, hard cheese and cream cheese. You will find this diet to be much less extreme if you are used to eating a lot of processed foods. You may even find it helpful to combine the two diets so that you are eating a lot of raw, sprouted foods as well as some fish and chicken and maybe some yogurt.

Both diets include cookbooks with many good recipes to help you be successful in fighting Candida and getting your body back into balance.

It is of utmost importance to find a diet that you know you can stick to. There are also some very helpful supplements you can take including digestive enzymes, systemic enzymes, etc… Please see my article about treating Candida naturally.

For more information on yeast and fungal issues I would recommend a book called, The Fungus Link.
