Page content

There are so many natural remedies out there today. Some are newer practices and others have been used throughout history, dating back to biblical times. Apitherapy is one of those that have been around for ages. But what is Apitherapy? Well, this comprehensive guide can help you explore this natural method.

What is Apitherapy?

Apitherapy is the use of bee products for illnesses of the body. Bee products such as pollen, venom, royal jelly and even honey can be used.

Honey has long been used for its antibacterial properties. Ancient Egyptians used this for everything from wounds to the process of mummification. It has been used to ease sore throats, cold symptoms, and is even applied today on wounds to prevent infections.

However, bee venom is a more widely used practice. Many people who suffer from arthritis tendonitis, bursitis, etc. turn to Apitherapy. Bee venom has medicinal elements such as melittin, proteins and peptides. Apitherapy has anti-inflammatory but too much can have powerful and damaging neurotoxic and immunogenic effects.

What Can Apitherapy Treat?

According to Andrew Kochan, MD of The Institute of Healing Arts Research, Apitherapy can help treat a number of illnesses and painful problems such as:

“MS—two clinical trials are now underway, post-herpetic neuralgia-excellent response, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, osteoarthritis of hands, feet, wrists, ankles, knee, elbows, and shoulders, bursitis and tendonitis, even painful scars “

Apitherapy Overview

As you can see the centuries old method of Apitherapy is widely used and has been for ages. While some medical doctors and physicians recommend Apitherapy there are still some that do not. Many clinical trials are currently underway although some doctors night never embrace the idea of Apitherapy for their patients.
