Have you ever considered drinking the juice of a raw potato? It is worth considering, especially if you have any acidity related ailments, including headaches that are prompted by a highly acidic internal environment.

Potato is one of nature’s best-known alkalis, is high in vitamin C and is relatively unknown for its healing properties. Drink the juice of one medium sized potato, first thing in the morning and this is what you can look forward to: a fast acting laxative (if you need one), improving the alkaline Ph of the blood, and improved energy levels. Make sure that the potato you pick has eyes and leave the green portions out - they do not facilitate healing and are considered a negative alkali. Add a pinch of salt to taste, if you cannot stomach the idea of drinking the juice of a raw potato. It is best taken as is, however.

Potatoes, as mentioned earlier, is a good source of vitamin C and all the goodness is hiding just beneath the skin. Peeling the potato actually takes away from it, but if you have to, then so be it. If organic potatoes catch your fancy, then eat the skin! You have nothing to lose, really. Potatoes are a reliable source of vitamin B6, copper, potassium and manganese.

The redskin potatoes are said to be more nutritious, and rank lower on the starch index. They have a nutty consistency to them and a distinct flavor, which makes them delicious no matter which way they are cooked.

Closer examination of the red skin reveals that they come out on top in the as protectors of the heart because of their high flavonoid content. They are known to protect against cardiovascular disease, respiratory conditions and even certain types of cancer.

The humble potato carries compounds, which have the potential to significantly lower blood pressure, comparable in levels to that of the goji berry.

Potatoes have gained their poor image and unhealthy reputation because they are more popular in the form of fries than as shot of raw juice. And far from the popular misconception that they are the gas producing, starchy foe of the weight watcher, potatoes are high in dietary fiber, low in calories and sodium and surprisingly, very beneficial for the health of the heart.
