    Benefits of Rosemary Tea Rosemary did not get its name from the flower rose or the name Mary. Its Latin name, rosmarinus, means "dew of the sea". It is believed it was given this name because it frequently grows near the sea.

    Rosemary is a woody, perennial herb belonging to the mint family, Lamiaceae. Its thick needle-like leaves are evergreen in color and are very aromatic. The flowers are small and vary in color, including blue, purple, pink, and white.

    Rosemary is native to the Mediterranean area but can grow well in many other regions around the world. It prefers dry, sunny spots and can do well growing in containers.

    Rosemary tea has been used for hundreds of years to improve memory. Because of this, rosemary was used as a symbol for remembrance on special occasions, such as weddings, funerals, and war commemorations. People would also place sprigs of rosemary in their hair when studying for exams.

Rosemary tea, made of the plant's leaf, contains rosmarinic acid and many other antioxidants that have been reported to prevent the breakdown of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that preserves brain tissues.

    Drinking rosemary tea benefits the digestive tract and can help those suffering from irritable bowel syndrome. It stimulates the release of bile to help digest fats, thus relieving intestinal cramps and spasms. It also helps in relieving indigestion, flatulence, and bloating.

    Other benefits of drinking rosemary tea include helping the following:

    Preparing Rosemary Tea

    Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 teaspoon of dried rosemary leaf, cover, steep for 5-10 minutes, strain, and drink.

    Besides drinking rosemary tea, you can benefit from it by:

    • adding it to bath water to soothe sore muscles
    • soaking a washcloth in it and applying it to the skin to heal wounds and treat conditions like eczema.
