Juicing for Health: Common Mistakes to Avoid When Juicing
Page content

Here are some of the common mistakes made by beginners when embarking on a juicing program. Avoid them and you’ll derive maximum health benefits from juicing.

Using Canned or Bottled Juice

Canned or bottled juice may come labeled as 100 % fresh or with no preservatives added. It doesn’t take a genius to know that this is a bit of an exaggeration.

`Fresh’ means fresh fruits were used for the juice. That’s about it. You can’t compare the juices you extract yourself and that of bottled ones. Even a child can tell the difference.

Studies have shown that the nutrition content in bottled or canned juices is lower than that extracted directly from fruits. So, if you’re serious about deriving benefits from your juicing program, avoid canned or bottled juices, even if they are labeled as 100% fresh.

Leaving Extracted Juice Exposed to Air

It just takes minutes for juices to lose the power of their nutrients when they are exposed to air. Consume your juices, as far as possible, immediately after extraction. Many beginners make the mistake of cleaning up the mess in their juicers first before consuming the extracted juice. Drink first, clean up later.

Leaving Rind and Fiber in Your Juice

When you juice certain fruits, you’ll get plenty of rind and fiber. While they are nutritious, don’t include them in your juices. They are not easy to digest and can slow down the absorption of vitamins and minerals in your body.

To minimize rind and fiber, use a good quality juice extractor and strain the extracted juice before consuming it.

Drinking Your Juice Too Fast

Don’t drink your extracted juice to quench thirst. If you’re thirsty, drink a glass of plain water first. Then when it comes to the juice, take small sips or use a tablespoon to drink it. When you do this, the juices will be afforded the chance of mixing with your saliva which has digestive juices to break down sugar in the juice. Allowing your juice to mix well with your saliva will ensure a speedy digestion process.

Selecting Inferior Quality Fruits

Avoid low-quality fruits that are sold at cheap prices. Choose fruits that are fresh and unspoilt. Select fruits that have vibrant colours instead of those which are pale or discolored.

Also, avoid fruits that are ripened artificially through the use of chemicals.

Such fruits could only minimize the benefits that you’ll be enjoying from your juicing program.
