Apart from the green beans themselves, you need a pot of boiling water, a bowl of cold water, and a bowl of ice. For storage, you need a vacuum food sealer or a freezer bag. Of course, you need a knife to slice the beans.

How to Select and Prepare the Green Beans

First, you want to select carefully the green beans. Choose fresh ones and discard old, overripe, or dried ones. Once you’re satisfied with your selection, you want to make sure the green beans are clean. Rinse them well with cold water, or better still with lukewarm water.

Once your beans are clean, snip off the ends and slice them into smaller pieces.

Blanching the Green Beans

First, prepare a pot of boiling water, as well as the bowl of cold water and the ice.

Here’s a tip to remove as much air as possible from a Ziploc bag. After placing food in the bag, zip it shut, but leave enough gap insert a straw. Suck the air out of the straw and close the bag as soon as you remove the straw.

Storage for Frozen Green Beans

Generally, you can store fresh frozen green beans for about nine months in an ordinary freezer. In a deep freezer, they would last a few months longer. Also, vacuum sealed green beans last longer than those packed in a Ziploc bag.
