Endometriosis is a condition in which the endometrium (a tissue that lines the uterus) begins growing on the outside of the uterus as well as other organs in the belly and pelvic areas. It is a chronic condition that can often become painful and cause other unpleasant symptoms. The medications that are approved for Endometriosis often cause unpleasant side effects. The only other medical treatment offered may be surgery so many patients are opting for natural cures to treat this condition and alleviate symptoms.

Food Choices

Since high levels of estrogen have been linked to this condition, it may be beneficial for patients to eat foods that are high in indoles because indoles may help to promote healthy estrogen metabolism. Some foods that contain indoles include Brussels sprouts, broccoli, kale, cabbage and cauliflower. Eating these types of foods can be an effective natural remedy for endometriosis for women who wish to avoid herbs and extra vitamins.

Progesterone Cream

Progesterone cream may be a beneficial natural remedy because progesterone is believed to slow down the growth of any abnormal endometrial tissues thus reducing some of the symptoms. It may help to reduce the pain experienced during menstrual periods as well as reduce any pelvic pain. Those who opt to try progesterone cream should apply it on their inner thighs and arms or wrists. The dosage should be calculated by a professional and will vary from patient to patient.

Pain and Stress

Since pain is a major concern of many patients with endometriosis and traditional pain medications can cause several side effects, patients may find Omega-3 fatty acids to be a beneficial treatment. It is thought that Omega-3 fatty acids can reduce the levels of prostaglandin E2, which is considered an inflammatory chemical. Since inflammation is a major source of the pain experienced by women suffering from the condition, decreasing it may in turn decrease the pain. Fish oil may also help to slow down the growth of endometrial tissue. These remedies also have other health benefits such as improved circulation and improved digestive health.

Stress can contribute to high levels of cortisol (a stress hormone), and it is thought that cortisol helps to produce progesterone so those with high cortisol levels may experience a decrease in progesterone leading to a hormonal imbalance. Those with endometriosis who experience high levels of stress may benefit from reducing their stress. Some supplements that may help to reduce stress include magnesium, ashwagandha, B vitamins, zinc and vitamin C. These vitamins, minerals and herbs are not only beneficial natural cures for endometriosis, they also have other health benefits. These benefits include a stronger immune system, healthier muscle function and increased energy.

Ginger for Nausea Relief

Some patients with endometriosis experience nausea. Ginger tea may be effective in alleviating the nausea that may occur with this condition. Those who opt to use ginger should drink it when they are experiencing nausea. It is not stated whether or not users should not exceed a certain amount of ginger tea in a day so users may benefit from seeking advice from an alternative medicine professional. Those wishing to use ginger as a natural remedy for endometriosis can also elect to drink ginger ale. Ginger ale is said to be almost as effective, or in some cases, just as effective as ginger tea in alleviating nausea.
