Cut Back on Calories, Not Your Social Life

Now you can go out and eat at many different places, thanks to the restaurants that serve healthy meals. However, you don’t have to limit yourself to just restaurants that offer lower fat meals. You can create your own healthier meals by omitting high fat condiments and high fat side dishes.

Chili’s

Chili’s is known for its tangy and delicious baby back ribs, but that is not all it is known for. In fact, Chili’s now offers lower fat food items on their healthy eating menu. Some of these foods are from the soup or chili menu, while others are main course meals or side dishes.

Soup and Chili

Broccoli cheese soup, chicken and green chile soup, and Chili’s terlingua chili are all great choices and have 10 grams of fat or less per 1 cup serving.

Chicken

Another excellent lower fat meal at Chili’s is the grilled barbecue chicken salad, which has 12 total fat grams. The guiltless grilled chicken sandwich has 12 fat grams and is served with non-fat honey mustard dressing and steamed veggies. The chicken fajitas are another excellent choice and have 8 total fat grams.

Omit Fattening Condiments

Since fajitas are served with tortillas, you can omit the tortillas from your meal if you are watching your carbs. The fajitas are also served with guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo. To prevent yourself from eating too much fat, omit the sour cream and the guacamole condiments from your meal.

Applebee’s

Applebee’s not only has very tasty food, but they recently added a healthy eating menu to appeal to health conscious individuals. This menu is known as the “Under 550 Calories” menu.

Shrimp Entrees

Shrimp entrees include Teriyaki Shrimp Pasta, Signature Sirloin with Garlic Herb Shrimp, and Grilled Shrimp and Island Rice.

Chicken and Steak

Chicken and steak entries include the Asiago Peppercorn Steak and the Grilled Dijon Chicken and Portabellos.

Chipotle

Chipotle restaurants serve authentic Mexican style cuisine. From burritos, to tacos to healthy options on their menu, what makes Chipotle different from other restaurants is that they are known for serving hormone and anti-biotic free meats. They also have a nice selection of different types of beans, pico de gallo salsas and rice.

To minimize the amount of fat and calories from your diet, you can omit the sour cream, guacamole, and cheese from your taco or burrito. Instead, make a colorful and healthy burrito or taco by opting for chicken, black beans, rice, and salsa.

Panera Bread

Panera Bread serves a variety of foods from bagels to sandwiches to desserts; however, they also serve a healthy eating menu as well. This nationwide chain takes pride in offering customers a variety of organic ingredients. For one, individuals have the option of choosing whole wheat bread on their sandwiches. They can also ask for an apple as a side as opposed to chips.

This restaurant is also a big believer in portion control. Many people enjoy eating the soup and sandwich combo, which includes half a sandwich with a small portion of soup. According to the article, “America’s Top 10 Healthiest Fast Food Restaurants,“1 most of the chicken used by Panera Bread is antibiotic and hormone free.

In a Health.com report, authors Tracy Minkin and Brittani Renaud stated that one of their favorite Panera Bread combos was the nutrient-packed half a turkey and artichoke sandwich on focaccia bread.2 This was served with a bowl of black bean or garden soup that were both very tasty.

Now that you know more about restaurants that serve healthy meals, you can make better choices about where to eat when dining out.
