Seeds are good and healthy munchies that have benefits for the body we simply cannot ignore. They are considered an ideal food for diabetics, vegans, vegetarians and coeliacs. Seeds are high in iron, protein and vitamin E, they are naturally low in cholesterol and carbohydrates. For those who do not get the optimum amounts of zinc and other minerals (maybe due to their dietary choices such as vegetarian or vegan), seeds provide the necessary quantities of these.

Seeds are good suppliers of protein, which in turn is a good supplier of amino acids, the essential building blocks of cells.

There are three seeds in particular, known for their high nutritional properties, which qualify as super foods and should be eaten regularly.

Pumpkin seeds: they are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and zinc. They are rich in amino acids, iron and phosphorus. Pumpkin seeds are a rich source of vitamins and minerals and in addition to the ones mentioned above, they also contain loads of beta-carotene, vitamin C and potassium. Pumpkin seeds are said to promote the health of the prostate gland. They are also known for their anti-inflammatory properties and have proved useful in the treatment of arthritis. They are best eaten roasted.

Sesame seeds: these tiny little seeds bear testimony to the adage “the best things come in small packages”. These minute, black, and white seeds are packed with nutrition and contain high amounts of protein, iron, magnesium, calcium, and are low in carbohydrates and free of cholesterol. Sesame seeds are supposedly a good digestive aid and have the ability to improve blood circulation. Sesame is a friend of the liver, kidney, spleen and stomach.

Sunflower seeds: these seeds are dubbed “gift of nature” and with good reason too. They are power packed with nutrients and are hard to beat in their nutritional index. They contain high amounts of unsaturated fats, both mono and poly, which protect the heart, vitamin E (like nothing else on earth does), iron, selenium, zinc and folic acid. Eating sunflower seeds is a good way to insure against heart disease and free-radical cell damage.

Sunflower seeds are well endowed with zinc, making it one of the best natural sources of this mineral. Zinc is essential for the proper functioning of the immune system and therefore, provides vital support to it. They make a healthy snack, being rich in protein and low in carbohydrates.
