A Constantly Changing Figure

As someone who describes herself as “naturally predisposed" to be chunky, Beyonce Knowles has certainly experienced her fair share of weight gain and weight loss.

Standing 5 feet 7 inches tall, Beyonce is said to normally weigh 139 pounds. At her absolute thinnest, it was speculated she weighed just 117 pounds. When she was asked to gain weight to portray Etta James in the film Cadillac Records, her weight temporarily hit a record high of roughly 155 pounds.

Beyonce Workout Secrets for Success

In a segment for VH1’s Rock Bodies, Beyonce was shown doing squats and working out with a large exercise ball while saying she wants to avoid having a body that “jiggles” too much because it’s “not cute” at all.

Beyonce’s workout routine can best be described as follows:

  • Her morning routine includes cardio for half an hour, followed by free weights for 45 minutes.
  • Beyonce runs six days a week, completing a four-mile jog in 40 minutes.
  • Once a week, she takes a yoga class for strengthening and toning.
  • Biking and dancing are often cited as two of her favorite ways to have fun while still burning calories.

If you’re too pressed for time to follow her entire exercise schedule, the following 12-minute routine has also been widely credited as one of Beyonce’s workout secrets:

  • Minute 1: Basic Crunches
  • Minute 2: Bicycle Crunches
  • Minute 3: Rest
  • Minute 4: Left Twists

Beyonce’s Diet Tips

Beyonce, like many slim Hollywood stars, avoids red meat, bread, and alcohol. She eats plenty of vegetables each day and describes her overall diet as low-fat, low-carb, and low-calorie.

Beyonce has been criticized for rapid weight loss on the Lemonade Diet, which she used when she needed to quickly drop 20 pounds for her role as Deena in Dreamgirls. The lemonade diet, also known as the Master Cleanse, is supposed to help cleanse the body of toxins by drinking a lemonade-type drink made with lemons, purified water, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. Laxative tea is taken in the evenings. The diet, which is technically a fast because it doesn’t allow for any actual food, is usually only followed for about 10 days. It’s a very effective way to lose weight, but normally only a temporary fix. This is why Beyonce relies on a personal nutritionist to handle her long-term weight management program.
