The foods on the approved list for the Cabbage Soup Diet include fruits, vegetables, starches, beef and brown rice in combination with the cabbage soup at the heart of the plan. The Cabbage Soup diet follows a seven-day progression that slowly allows the user to eat more and more foods.

Does the Cabbage Soup Diet Afford Long Term Weight Loss?
While this trendy diet has seen its ups and downs, the fact remains the diet offers just about every food group imaginable. If the user can handle the strict diet for the first few days, he or she will be able to eat more satiating meals beginning on the fifth, sixth and seventh day. The diet is planned to cycle through the same seven days over and over again, thus presenting the body with four days of cleansing and three days of eating a more normal menu.

Scientific Proof For or Against the Cabbage Soup Diet
The FDA, Food and Drug Administration, calls the Cabbage Soup Diet a “fad diet”. In a formal report (1), the FDA stated, “The cabbage soup diet, the low-carbohydrate and high-protein diet, and other so-called 'fad' diets are fundamentally different from federal nutrition dietary guidelines and are not recommended for losing weight". While these FDA comments are based heavily on the fact that the diet promises weight loss that may be unrealistic, the fact remains that the Cabbage Soup Diet is one of the few fad diets that offer the body an increase in fruits, vegetables and whole grains, something that many other fad diets fail to do.
