Bioinformatics more properly refers to the creation of algorithms, computational and statistical techniques to solve different practical problems arising from the analysis of biological data.
Computation Biology as its very name suggests, means using computers to find solutions to biological questions and problems. The Common factor in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology is the use of math techniques to extract useful information.
Bioinformatics mainly involves computerizing the biological data, which can come from biotechnology or it may be any other biological science. It deals with many different subjects such as chemistry, mathematics, statistics, computers and different kinds of programming languages like C, C++, Java and Oracle.
Using these different kinds of programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Visual Basic, Perl, and etc one can create many types of software. Most of the softwares are mainly related to sequence information. They take sequence as input and gives the required information that can be obtained by a DNA sequence.
Software creation can be anything. It takes DNA as input or it can take protein sequence as an input.
Bioinformatics software has to be precise and accurate and should have the ability to handle most of the common types of errors. Software may need to be developed to create a phylogenetic tree or any other bioinformatics module.
Bioinformatics has many concepts which are to computerized. It is not necessary to create software only in bioinformatics. Databases are also made in different projects. Databases also are one of the most important projects that can be made. They are developed by using ORACLE/SQL.
Apart from databases and softwares, many bioinformatics projects may include simulation of different other softwares and also evaluation of different softwares.
There are many types of projects that can be created in bioinformatics as your project including development of softwares, databases, simulation, modeling either molecular or homology and evaluation of other softwares.
This is a summary of some of the areas in which bioinformatics works at the macro level. At the micro-level, the complexity and needs increases for a reliable and near perfect program technique.
